Surround yourself with people who help you learn and grow

Surround yourself with people who help you learn and grow

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. (Jim Rohn)

Have you heard this before? This famous quote relates to the law of averages, which is the theory that the result of any given situation will be the average of all outcomes.

I stumbled upon an enlightening new podcast by Master Certified Coach Kara Lowentheil who mentioned this same theory about the law of averages in a recent podcast. It made me think some more about this topic.

Experts say to surround yourself with people who are smarter and more successful than yourself. If you are the smartest person in the room, go to another room.

What???

This MAY SOUND SCARY.

Don’t I want to be the best in the room? Don’t I want to be the most powerful? Don’t I want to be the smartest in the room?

Absolutely NOT. You need to get outside your comfort zones in order to grow.

How?

  1. Take a careful assessment of the people and environment you spend the most time with: Is it lifting you or is it holding you back?

  2. What do you want to improve in your life? Be around people that are successful around the things you value so that you can grow and be inspired from them.

  3. Find people that are better at things in life than you. Surround yourself with people who are more successful, more mentally sound, more spiritually sound, healthier, more happy in relationships, happy in their jobs, etc.

  4. Surround yourself with people working hard to improve their life as it will inspire you to want more and to work harder and improve your life.

  5. Avoid negativity in perspectives, experiences, and environments.

  6. Make friends with people who have personality traits you want to emulate or learn from.

  7. Don’t get stuck in old patterns and problems.

Results?

You will be able to learn and grow from people that are successful in the areas you want to improve upon. This allows you to not only improve your life and make changes but also to see the POSSIBILITIES!

When we try new things, meet new people, and try new experiences we are able to get smarter, wiser, more compassionate, and more fully evolved. If we are always the best in the room, we won’t learn anything new.

Book that trip or take the class you are scared to be last in. You got this. You will be better for it.

Where in your life can you step out of your comfort zone and surround yourself with people that can help you grow and learn? Open your eyes to see what is possible!
