Things I am doing (Nutritionist) to stay healthy right now with COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Things I’m personally doing to stay healthy right now:
1. Eating real Whole Foods. Avoiding processed. Certain nutrients can help protect your body from illness while some foods can increase Illness. I’m avoiding processed foods, sugar, and gluten. Some nutrients and foods that support healthy immunity include:
Garlic, turmeric root, ginger root
Mushrooms
Active omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA)
Zinc- like oysters and chickpeas
Selenium-such as broccoli, sardines, tuna, Brazil nuts
Vitamin C-kiwis, bell peppers, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, oranges, papaya, broccoli, pineapple, cantaloupe, mango, tomato, kale, peas
Vitamin E-sunflower seeds, almonds, avocados, hazelnuts, spinach, Swiss chard, butternut squash, broccoli, and rainbow trout
Probiotics- yogurt
2. Avoiding gluten, sugar, processed foods (see above)
3. Getting Sleep: Quality sleep stimulates the immune system, while sleep deprivation can depress your immunity. Trying to get an average of 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Those with a compromised immune system should get even more sleep!
4. Vitamin D: it’s is crucial for healthy immune regulation and inflammatory response. Get 10 to 30 minutes of direct sunlight each day or consider supplementing
5. Physical Activity: Still working on this! Getting 20- 30 minutes of aerobic activity daily will increase your blood circulation and can help strengthen your immune system. I’m doing yoga online classes and stretching indoors as well as walking outside around the block.
6. Staying Hydrated
Water helps cleanse the body and remove toxins. Keep drinking water all day every day! Warm water and soups even better.
7. Supplemental Support
Another way to support your immunity is with high-quality vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Developing a supplement routine is nutritional insurance for overall wellness. Be careful of the profiteers out there right now!
8. Eliminating alcohol
Alcohol suppresses the immune system. I’m staying away!
